GARY ABLETT TO RE-SIGN WITH THE SUNS

Gary Ablett will remain with the Gold Coast Suns for another three years, after a contract extension was reportedly finalised on Friday. The new deal worth $1 million a season, would keep Ablett at the Suns until the end of the 2018 season. The big guns have fallen early on a frustrating day at the Margaret Pro. Fanning, who last week won another Bells title, was knocked out by local Jay Davies. Earlier in the day Joel Parkinson was defeated by Hawaiian Sebastien Zeits. “We both expected to have a lot more waves than that. I expected after this morning’s surf and watching it before I went out there was a lot of opportunities and then there wasn’t,” Parkinson said. “We sat there from probably the 18-minute mark to the 10-minute mark without a wave.
