MAN SHOT BY POLICE ON NSW CENTRAL COAST

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot by police when he allegedly confronted them with a knife on the NSW Central Coast. Police say that just after 12.30am on Saturday officers were patrolling Watts Street in Gosford when a knife-wielding man confronted them in a car park. The 20-year-old man was shot by police. Police say the officers assisted the man until ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition. A police critical incident team will investigate all circumstances surrounding the shooting with the investigation being overseen by the Professional Standards Command. Read More »

Three confirmed dead after Sydney hostage crisis ends.

Three people are dead after a dramatic firefight ended a day-long siege at a Martin Place cafe early this morning. The gunfire is believed to have broken out about 2am after the gunman Man Haron Monis reportedly dozed off, only to discover several of the hostages attempting to slip free. It is believed he then opened fire at least three times, prompting heavily-armed police to storm the cafe, firing off several bursts and throwing ‘flashbang’ stun grenades. The 50-year-old self-styled Muslim cleric, took the group of 17 people hostage yesterday morning. Three people have been confirmed dead, including the gunman, a 34-year-old male hostage and a 38-year-old male hostage. The alarm was raised about 9.45am after onlookers reported a man with a shotgun taking hostages in the cafe. Hostages inside the cafe have been forced to hold what appears to be an Islamic flag, identified as a Shahada flag, in the cafe’s window reading “no god worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is his messenger”.
